If you start from North, Etar is a nice place to visit and eat. Going up through the forest is amasing. Than you reach the Monument of Freedom which is a slight detour from the route - but it is worth it. Magnificent views. Then start a descent on a completely new asfalt with amazing corners :) Be careful ! Then you can do it the other way around !
It is a very fast one on the Bulgarian side, new asfalt, wide road, but with some traffic in weekends. You can stop in Bansko and Dobriniste for a good meal or drink. Also nice accomodation there. On the Greek side it is a narrow road, good surface and no traffic. I use it as an escape from highway from Bulgaria to Greece.
It is a relax tour on the lake shore. Very nice scenery, willow branches dip in the water, swans swimming around. A good end to a trip to Kastoria
Starts with some fast road with open corners, and good surface. Than you will drive along the lake, asfalt is not so good, but the scenery is awesome. Many nice tavernas along. Then you climb over a alpine scenery to Metsovo, nice road and turns, ski resorts, and no gas stations ! Highly recomended...
Possibly the world's most scenic road!
Would you drive on a road literally carved out of the cliff? Hairpin bends, blind corners, adverse camber, low tunnels- all set to a backdrop of the beautiful Lake Garda. This road is not for the fainthearted!
The road has several names: La Strada della Forra, SP 38, Gorge Road, way of the Gorge, "Holy s**t- are we really riding down that!":
Call it whatever you like- this road is amazing.
If you'd like to see more, I made a video of it: https://youtu.be/ckcAglJMh1U
It starts with wide road and some fast open corners, then it goes along the beach, where you can enjoy the long beach. Then it goes in the hills again, with a twisty part. In october there are no tourists, many nice places to eat and have a drink !
